Lifetime Honorary Awards

From time to time the IBBA Board of Directors and Committee Chairs may nominate individuals for special awards in recognition of meritorious work on behalf of the IBBA, or of actions that uphold and promote the ideals, goals and ethics of the IBBA.

Melanie McCarthy

Lifetime Honorary Award, 2006

Lifetime Honorary Award: Melanie McCarthyMelanie has been president, board member, committee chairperson and more. She has guided us through legal and procedural minefields numerous times. Her bookkeeping, accounting, business, and organizational skills have kept the IBBA on track. Ms. McCarthy single handedly took care of the incorporation of Wings of Hope so it is now a 501c Corporation that can take tax deductible donations. She was instrumental in securing two important sponsors for Wings of Hope: The Molly Bish Foundation and the Granby Public Library in Granby, Massachusetts. Melanie has been a part of the IBBA since its beginning, but it is what she has done in the interim that matters. Zane B. Greathouse

Rick Mikula

Lifetime Honorary Award, 2006

Rick Mikula

Lifetime Honorary Award: Rick MikulaRick has done more to make the butterfly release business an industry than anyone I know. He has lead us with his seminars, at workshops, and many presentations. Mr. Mikula is the face of our industry (be it cross-eyed with a butterfly on his nose) as he crosses the country doing programs and sharing his love for butterflies and butterfly releases. Rick has taught us that this doesn’t have to be a hobby. We learned that we can make a living doing something we love.

Linda Rogers

Lifetime Honorary Award, 2006

Lifetime Honorary Award: Linda RogersLinda is what the IBBA is all about. She is full of energy, ideas, and passion. She has spent untold hours doing behind the scenes work for the IBBA. Her spirit of volunteerism is what our organization relies on. Ms. Rogers is a dynamo and she has made a difference many times. Her political energy helped to get the IBBA through some tough times with the USDA. Linda is another “been there from the start” member who continues to generate ideas, share her passion, and make a difference. Zane B. Greathouse

Nigel Venters

Lifetime Honorary Award, 2006

Lifetime Honorary Award: Nigel VentersNigel is the unofficial mentor of the IBBA. He has donated many hours sharing husbandry and culture ideas. His musings on the list are always well read and generate much positive interest. I know of no one who knows more about the breeding of butterflies and certainly no one who has been more willing to share their knowledge with beginners. Nigel has patiently answered the same questions time and time again as new IBBA members learn the intricacies of butterfly rearing. Zane B. Greathouse.

There was follow-up and closure with all individuals and organizations involved, both donors and recipients and final reports for each event placed on the Wings of Hope Web page. We are truly appreciative of the care and attention they have given to this program. Their work has been outstanding.
