This years’ convention is packed full of learning opportunities for butterfly farmers and enthusiasts of all levels; beginner to expert. Featuring 3 Butterfly Farm Tours, Presentations, Hands-on Demonstrations, Behind the Scenes at McGuire Center including educational speakers/classes, and learn about our conservation efforts in the monarch butterfly sanctuaries in Mexico. This is a convention that you do not want to miss! We will top the convention off with special guest Chip Taylor of Monarch Watch.

Wednesday, Nov 7th

Half Day Butterfly Symposium

Come join us at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 7, for a half-day symposium providing presentations from local butterfly specialists on how to attract and raise Florida garden species such as eastern black swallowtails, polydamas swallowtails, cloudless sulphurs, orange-barred sulphurs, , malachites, zebra longwings, Julias, white peacocks, viceroys, and other butterflies.

We will also be providing a hands-on demonstration on how to propagate tropical milkweed for raising monarchs and queens as well as discuss proven techniques for raising many butterfly species by obtaining eggs from wild-collected females.

Symposium Cost is $39. Lunch will be provided and you can take home your milkweed cuttings.

McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity

Today we travel to the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity. Throughout the convention, there will be opportunities to try your hand at important techniques for raising butterflies including; hand pairing butterflies for breeding, testing for Oe, rolling eggs, 60 second egg wash, gluing pupae, propagating tropical milkweed, tagging monarchs, and dissecting a caterpillar.
